Rural Housing Week 2023
Building a better future for rural communities in Northamptonshire
This week we’re supporting Rural Housing Week – an annual National Housing Federation campaign that shines a spotlight on the vital importance of housing associations for rural communities.
Taking place 3-7 July, the theme for this year’s Rural Housing Week is ‘building a better future for rural communities.’
The short supply of affordable rural housing is not a new problem. But with high property prices, reduced funding, a shortage of affordable homes to rent, increasing levels of second home ownership and holiday lets, and limitations on new home development it will continue to intensify having a heartbreaking impact on the sustainability of rural communities.
Five new homes in the small village of Lilbourne, Northamptonshire are a snapshot of just how important affordable homes are in rural communities.
Read the stories of three of the families who moved into their new homes in October 2022:
- a retired grandmother who was ready to downsize, but needed to stay close to family
- a young family who needed space and security, and
- the local pastor and his family who were travelling in several times a week.
